1. Choose the shape for the way you will use it
A pelt follows the outline of an individual hide. Its irregular edges suit a small bedside rug or a throw draped over an armchair, bench or sofa. The wool direction, outline and fullness differ between hides, so the photograph shows the character of the material rather than an identical shape for every piece.
Round, square and rectangular sheepskin rugs give a more defined shape for a floor area. A round rug makes a compact accent beside a chair; a runner follows the side of a bed; a broader rectangle covers more open floor. Check the available options on the individual card because colours do not all share the same sizes.
2. Read the backing description
| Type | Construction to check | Useful when choosing |
|---|---|---|
| Natural pelt | Genuine sheepskin with its natural leather hide backing | A naturally shaped small rug or furniture throw. |
| Round or rectangular rug | Sheepskin with the backing stated on its card | A defined floor shape; some rugs have non-slip backing. |
| Chair pad | Genuine sheepskin, foam padding and backing | A wool surface for a suitable chair seat. |
| Natural wool pet bed | A wool surface and padded construction | A separate pet-bed construction; read its own materials and care. |
Genuine sheepskin and a padded natural wool bed are different constructions. An added non-slip or textured backing is also different from the natural leather hide alone. Use the written material information to check which one you are selecting.
3. Measure the space, then compare the written size
Use a tape measure on the actual floor or furniture. For a throw, include the part you want to drape over an edge. For a floor rug, check door clearance and the position of furniture so the wool does not interfere with movement.
Read whether the card gives length × width or width × length. For example, the grey pelt is approximately 60 cm wide and 90 cm long (23.6 × 35.4 in). The white pelt lists 90 × 60 or 100 × 60 cm as length × width. Both white options are 60 cm wide.
- Round sheepskin rugs in this collection have an approximately 70 cm (27.6 in) backing diameter. Natural wool extends beyond that backing.
- All listed dimensions of round, square and rectangular sheepskin rugs refer to the backing. Natural wool extends beyond it. The Olive Green backing sizes are 70 × 70, 70 × 140, 70 × 190 and 130 × 150 cm. Confirm the selected size on the product page.
- Allow for an individual outline and approximate measurements on natural pelts. A fluffy wool edge is not a precise rectangular boundary.
4. Choose a colour with natural variation in mind
White, grey and taupe can blend with pale wood and neutral upholstery, while olive, plum or blue can create a stronger colour accent. Look at the studio, detail and room photographs together: room lighting and your screen can change how a shade appears.
Differences in curl, wool direction and tone are normal for genuine sheepskin. Many rug and pad cards specify approximately 5–8 cm (2–3.1 in) wool, but always use the wool-length description of the particular item you are considering.

Questions and answers
Can the same pelt be used on a floor and over a chair?
Yes, the natural pelts described as rugs and throws are intended for either use indoors. Check the individual dimensions, backing and the fit on your furniture. A pelt is not the same construction as a fitted chair pad.
Does a 70 cm round rug include the outer wool?
The approximately 70 cm measurement refers to the round backing. The natural wool extends beyond it, and its exact outer outline varies.
Will the colour and shape match the photographs exactly?
Each hide has its own outline, shade and wool texture. Photographs show the style and details; natural variation, lighting and screen settings can affect the final appearance.
